Dedication
Jimmy
Lebos was born on October 17, 1928 in Johannesburg, of Lebanese parents: Joe who
was from Beitedine and Rose from Seb'el. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce and
a LL.B. degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.
He was a scholar, orator, author, and lawyer.
Jimmy's
life was grounded in his Maronite upbringing and the culture and traditions of
his parents. He was able to live with the ingrained spirit of Lebanon
guiding his actions. The
"inspiration" of Lebanon and its generous spiritual culture was
carried within him. He
implanted this within his family and among all who came in contact with
him in South Africa.
A
proud son of Lebanon, he brought its cultural heritage to his beloved South
Africa. Although a successful
lawyer for many years, his passion was for his Lebanese heritage and for
community affairs. He served on many community organizations such as the
Lebanese Christian Association, the World Lebanese Cultural Union, Cedar Park
and Relief for Lebanon.
His
name will forever be synonymous with the church of "Our Lady of the Cedars
of Lebanon". He headed the committee which built this magnificent church
and which serves our community in Johannesburg so well today. These
excerpts are based upon John Haddad’s eulogy of Jimmy Lebos. John Haddad is the President of the World Lebanese Cultural
Union in Johannesburg, South Africa. | Previous | Copyright | Next |
